Visit to La Torretta Winery and Vineyards
La Torretta winery is located just outside of Rome in the village of Grottaferrata, in an area known as the Castelli Romani, named for the numerous country villas in the hills surrounding the city. Winemaking in the Castelli Romani dates back nearly three millennia, and La Torretta’s property has been in current owner Riccardo Magno's family for generations. Reflecting local customs, La Torretta's wine is made in a second-century BC cave, dug by hand from the living rock. The wine barrels are housed in this historic space, guaranteeing consistent temperature and humidity levels.
La Torretta grows indigenous grapes like malvasia puntinata, trebbiano, and cesanese. All the wines are certified organic and biodynamic. The visit with Maurizio includes a walk through the vineyards and a description of La Torretta's philosophy and methodology, followed by a tour through the cellar. Finally, you will sample three different styles of wine paired with local cured meats and cheeses in the tasting room.
